Using SettledBills
What is SettledBills?
A simple iPhone list of what’s due, from which account. Open it. Know your situation. Close it. If you get paid on a schedule, payday strips are optional in Settings — leave them off if you don’t.
It is not a bank connection, budget tracker, calendar, receipt box, or a way to import bills from other apps.
Home vs All Bills
Home is this month’s due dates — mark paid, adjust an estimate. All Bills is the bill itself — name, schedule, autopay, category, and archive.
Every bill is stored once. Home calculates this month’s dates from that bill. Paying records a payment against a due date; it does not copy the bill.
Edit from Home changes this occurrence only. Edit from All Bills changes the bill going forward.
What does Due mean?
Due is the date that occurrence is supposed to be paid. It is the same idea everywhere — Home, All Bills, Insights, widgets, and reminders.
For about a week you’ll see Today, Tomorrow, In 4 days, or Overdue. After that, a short date. Once you mark it paid, the label becomes Paid today, Paid 2d ago, then Paid MMM d.
Payday divider
Optional. Off until you turn it on in Settings → Payday. If you don’t get a paycheck, leave it off — Home is still a date list of what’s due.
When it’s on, Home by date shows a strip for what’s still unpaid from that payday until the next. Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. A bill due on a payday belongs to that payday’s stretch. The strip totals unpaid amounts in that window. Variable bills with an estimate are included (you’ll see ~). Variable bills without an estimate are counted, not guessed.
Turn it off and Home is a plain date list. The widget then shows upcoming bills instead of a payday glance.
Labels
Optional short tag when several bills share one company. Lists show Account · Label under the name.
Example: one Scotiabank bill for a line of credit and another for fees. The name stays the company; the label tells them apart.
Accounts & card on file
Accounts group which bank or card pays which bills. They are labels you type — SettledBills never talks to a bank.
Card on file is for services where your card is saved but there’s no active bill — Uber or food delivery apps. It sits on the account so you remember what’s attached, without pretending it’s a due date.
Variable bills
No fixed amount — add an expected amount if you know it (~ shows on lists). You confirm the real amount when you mark paid. Insights leaves them out of fixed totals.
Use this for utilities, credit cards, or anything that changes. The expected amount is a hint, not a lock.
Autopay
Marks the bill paid when you open the app on or after the due date. If you mark it unpaid, it stays unpaid — autopay won’t quietly re-pay that due. Variable amounts still ask you to confirm.
Autopay uses the planned amount. It is a convenience on this phone, not a payment to a biller.
Archive
From All Bills (or an account’s bill list), archive hides a bill from active lists but keeps history. Restore from All Bills → Filters → Archive within 30 days. After that, it’s deleted permanently.
Archive is how you stop a bill without losing what you already paid. There is no separate delete for day-to-day use.
CSV vs backup
Export CSV for a readable copy in Sheets or Numbers — it can’t restore the app. Export backup before deleting SettledBills or moving phones, then Restore backup on the new install. Restore replaces all data on that phone.
Because bills stay on the device, a backup is the only way to bring them along. Make one before you delete the app.
Logos and company names
Pick a suggestion or type a site like honda.ca for a logo. Skip the list to keep your name — add a character if a generic word matches a brand.
Common billers are bundled in the app. Anything else may ask Brandfetch for a logo and a clean name. Logos are cached on the phone after the first fetch.
Notes
Two different notes, never mixed. A bill note lives on the bill — a general reminder, visible on bill detail only. A payment note is tied to that one payment, visible in payment history only.
Neither shows on Home, All Bills, or search. Payment notes can’t be edited after saving — unmark and mark paid again to correct.
Plan & extras
Free plan & on hold
Your oldest 10 active bills stay fully usable. Newer ones go on hold — view only, no edit, mark paid, or reminders. Archive an older active bill and the next on-hold bill becomes active. Restoring an archived bill puts it at the back of that line. Upgrade unlocks all of them.
After Pro ends
Nothing is deleted. You’re back on Free — oldest 10 stay active; the rest go on hold until you upgrade again or archive to free a slot. You’ll see a one-time note when Pro ends — it never blocks the app.
Restore Purchases
Bought Pro, then reinstalled? Settings → Restore Purchases brings it back on this Apple ID. Bills stay on the phone — export a backup before you delete the app.
Family Sharing works for Pro. Restore on each family device that should have it.
Reminders
A morning digest of bills coming up in your reminder window. Bills on hold on Free don’t get reminders.
Due reminders need notification permission — only when you turn reminders on. If they’re off, Settings → Reminders → Open iOS Settings.
Widgets
Home Screen widgets show what’s coming due. If payday strips are on, they follow that stretch; if not, they show upcoming bills. Free uses your active 10; Pro shows every live bill.
The widget reads a snapshot the app writes on this phone. It does not reach out to the internet for your bills.
Insights months
Month totals follow each bill’s due date — same month as Home. When you tapped paid only stamps the payment date; it doesn’t move the bill to another month.
Insights totals
Year and month totals use fixed active bills. Variable bills are noted separately and aren’t included in those numbers.
Notifications & Face ID
Due reminders need notification permission — only when you turn reminders on. App lock uses Face ID or your passcode if you enable it. Your bills stay on this iPhone; SettledBills doesn’t read your mail, photos, or location.
Is my money or bank connected?
No. Accounts are names you give (Primary, Visa, and so on). SettledBills never logs into a bank, never moves money, and never sees transactions.
Can I use more than one currency?
One currency for the app, chosen at onboarding and changeable in Settings. Individual bills don’t have their own currency.
